State of Vermont to Help Specialty Food Producers

In the middle of getting pummeled by snow and ice in the Green Mountains (so says Eddie), there is some good news to share with you guys.  Governor Douglas, the governor of this fine state, has announced two $500,000 grants to build Innovation Kitchens in two needy communities in the state.  Read the full article here.

This is great to hear, as Eddie’s Energy Bars is one of the smaller (but rapidly growing) specialty food businesses in the state, only really hampered by expansion.  We can only make so many bars a week out of our small home bakery.

A lot of small foods businesses lack the capital to expand and fit-up their own facility, something we would love to do when I graduate from college.  This will help, at least in the transition to growing our company.  It will create skilled jobs, and provide the ability to help small operations grow into big names.  The Vermont brand will certainly help in this endeavor.
