Hi Michael,

I received my very first shipment of Eddie’s Energy Bars yesterday. The first thing that hit me when I tasted the chocolate chip and then the lemon coconut is FRESHNESS. I’ve been a fan of CLIF bars for a long time. While CLIF is all-natural, they tend to have a “formula-like” taste. I did not detect that with Eddie’s.

I am also a fan of Suncakes (out of Caifornia). Suncakes are all-natural but can be dry. Eddie’s flavor reminds me of Suncakes, but Eddie’s is NOT dry.

I guess what I’m trying to say is…you have an Eddie’s fan in Omaha.

Hey there Avid Reader!

We just want to make a quick shout out to our friends at Val’s Wild Tomato in Winooski, Vermont.  They just started selling our energy bars there this week and things are going really well.  They have great grab-and-go items during the working hours and then kick up up a notch during the evening hours with some awesome-tasting wings.

Eddie’s Energy Bars

I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the whole Senior year thing–busier than ever before and involved in two leadership positions on campus.  Combine this with planning how to grow Eddie’s, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a busy schedule.  I wanted to take a couple of paragraphs to let you know about what’s going on with Eddie’s:

Virginia/North Carolina Distribution: We’re working with Gordon Martel to get Eddie’s Energy Bars down in the VA/NC area.  We’re looking at Roanoke, Blacksburg, Lynchburg, and Raleigh areas.  Any recommendations for store locations in those areas are welcome!

Boston Distribution: We’re still working on this too and hope to be in stores soon.

Custom Labeled Energy Bars: We have been doing a lot of custom-labeled energy bar orders lately–it’s fun to do these because of the creativity of the companies and individuals that are requesting bars.  We’re doing trade show give-aways, concert eats, and other things!

Pumpkin Bar: It’s coming back in about two weeks for the period of October and November.  Get ready.

That’s it for now.  Lots of planning and big things in the works that I am unable to discuss right now!

Hello!

Last weekend, we set records at Eddie’s Energy Bars!  We baked a total of 23 batches–that’s 664 bars, shattering the previous record of 504 bars baked in a day.  While the 23 batches took 12 hours, it was one heck of a feat, given that our bars are manufactured on a kitchen-aid mixer and a home oven, so it got quite hot in the kitchen!

This increased demand has led to the purchase of a new convection home oven that will not only bake faster, but it will allow for 3 pans to be baked at the same time.  The Speed Demon Baker, Jeanne, will now be able to bake all of the bars she whips up for us–it’s a momentous occasion.  The oven should be here in about two weeks–it’s shiny and stainless steel, so we are pretty pumped about it.

Eddie’s Energy Bars

It’s been a very long wait, but the Eddie’s T-shirts are finally here!!!! I waited a long time yesterday–the UPS truck didn’t arrive until 6:30 pm! I should have given him an energy bar–next time!

Anyway, to the important stuff–T-SHIRTS.  Head on over here to purchase your Eddie’s duds with a great mountain logo on the front and the signature Eddie’s sprig of grass on the back.

The shirts are Hanes, mens and ladies fit. They run a little snug–men’s are pre-shrunk cotton and the women’s are not–no idea what that is!

Eddie’s Energy Bars

Tomorrow is August 1st and I have no idea where July went! I’m sure I’m not alone, but summer pretty much just started up here in the Green Mountains–for the first time in what seems like forever, we had two sunny days in a row, with temps in the 80’s!  These high temperatures have kept us hot. Know what else is keeping us hot? Our oven!  We have been baking like mad these past few weeks!

Eddie and Jeanne just made it back from the Outer Banks of North Carolina on a wonderful vacation, while I was holding down the bakery fort baking energy bars after our debut in the Burlington Free Press last week. Here is a recap of what’s going on:

Burlington Free Press article: We had a wonderful write-up in Business Monday last week and we have received an enormous amount of comments saying that it was a great editorial piece.  We could not thank John Briggs enough for writing a thoughtful piece and conveying everything I wanted to convey.  Also, I want to thank Ryan Mercer, my favorite Free Press photographer for some great shots of me and my mom (as well as the bars of course).

NECN Television Airing: We also had a crazy media day a few weeks ago, when NECN came by to film, and they had a great (lengthy!) piece on us.  Anya and Kika both did a great job with filming and interviewing–we’ve probably watched the clip 50 times we like it so much, so take a look at it and let us know what you think.

That’s it for media, but it has been keeping us really busy.  Our internet sales have sky-rocketed and our retail sales are holding strong, so look forward to a great next couple of months as we start to expand into other areas of Vermont as well as the Boston.

Eddie’s Energy Bars

We just finished baking all day to fill our 20 or so orders that have come in due to our appearance on the news. If you haven’t gotten a chance to watch it, click here.  We could only bake so many bars as we ran out of bags (hopefully they come tomorrow), but everyone’s order should be shipped out tomorrow.

Also, in other news, we are working on getting Eddie’s into more stores.  As our reach spreads throughout different US cities, our wonderful customers have suggested (and are more than willing) to help us get into stores in their area.  If you have a retailer in mind that would be great to carry Eddie’s, by all means, let us know. We like the small, independently-owned stores.  We are also looking into distribution in Canada as well as out west in the northern California area, and into Wisconsin.  I know, they are pretty random places, but that is where we have been given the opportunity to expand.  Further New England expansion is being looked into as well.

So, what does all of this mean?  We will be changing the label slightly over the next few weeks to make our Vermont roots known, as well as making the back label with ingredients and nutrition facts easier to read and comprehend.  Plus, we’re going ahead and getting UPC codes to make our retailers happy and to have the chance to land some bigger accounts.

With all of that being said, it has been a wild ride these past few weeks at Eddie’s headquarters–not to mention our oven seems like it may be on it’s way out! Stay tuned–there could be some pretty shiny pictures up on the blog soon.

Our site will be going under more maintenance and will be down for 12-24 hours, however, this is a good reason to be down for a day or so:

We are installing a secure server.  What does this mean?  This means that when you enter your personal information and credit card information on the Eddie’s site, it will be encrypted on a secure server so that no one may intercept it while your order is being processed.  You can have the utmost confidence in making your web purchases with us after this extra layer of security is installed.  We value your privacy, and hope that you will not find this necessary maintenance an inconvenience–we are making your shopping experience with us more enjoyable.

So, how do I order Eddie’s Energy Bars while the site is down?

You can send us an e-mail at info [at] eddiesenergy.com and we will personally call you to take down your order and payment details. Yes, that means we now are able to take credit cards over the phone!

While we cannot guarantee that someone will be in the office during the day, you are more than welcome to call our place at (802) 434-3862 (ask for Michael) and we’ll be happy to fill your order. The best time to call is after 2 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (in case the site maintenance goes longer than planned, but hopefully not!)

Eddie’s Energy Bars
