Walking Through a Hurricane

Good Saturday morning!

I awoke today to a very ugly weather system swatting at the east coast.  It’s windy, rainy, and kind of cold. I don’t like it, but on the other hand, it gives me a chance to let you guys in on a little nugget of knowledge from yours truly.

The secret to anti-procrastination.  You may have your own little secrets, but I believe mine trumps all.  What I do is create a calendar (sometimes in my mind, sometimes on paper), and it really helps me to plan out my week, and even down to the day.

These next few weeks here at school are brutal for just about every student here.  Many papers, tests, and projects are due, as the semester is slowly drawing to a close.  But, it’s important to note that these calendars can work for more than just your son’s or daughter’s school schedule.  You can also use them for your schedule. Schedule lunch with an old friend, make sure you get to that PTO meeting, and make sure to take the family on one last fall hike.  All of this can be accomplished by making a schedule, and knowing when you are available.

Make sure though, that you don’t overload your schedule.  Make time for yourself, and create a positive work, life, and family balance.

That’s my nugget–what’s yours?

Fall–Where are You!?

Today, I am sitting at my computer (actually reading my marketing textbook) melting away because it is so unbelievably hot today. It got up around ninety degrees, with some nice humidity to top it off.

I’m sorry. Isn’t it almost October? Aren’t the leaves supposed to be changing colors? Shouldn’t I be wearing jeans?

All questions I am wondering right now. Where are the sixty degree days with cool nights? Anyone? Tom Messner? Gib Brown? Sharon Meyer?

Fall started by the calendar, but it’s no where in sight.

Drink That Water!

While a lot of people think this is fantastic weather, I for one am not a fan in any sorts of hot, sticky, muggy weather. To combat this horrid weather, I drink water like a fish.

I must go through at least four nalgenes worth of water a day. But, drinking water certainly has its benefits, considering your body is 70% water. Correct me if I’m wrong. Anyway, staying hydrated keeps you going through your daily workouts and obviously internally cools you down, along with maintaining necessary bodily functions.

But water is water isn’t it? I honestly love water. It just tastes good. It is my favorite thing to drink when I am thirsty, and you may think I’m crazy for thinking water tastes good, but different waters have different tastes. I for one am a fan of my well water, but a close second would have to be the ethos water at Starbucks. Whatever water whets your appetite, keep on drinking it. If you are a flavored water drinker, watch out for the added calories!

Keep on drinking (water)!

A Nice Little Calorie Burner

Good Morning,

These next few days are going to showcase all that summer has to offer: hazy, hot, and humid weather, with temperatures getting up into the 90’s.  I personally despise ridiculously hot weather, but others “thrive” in it.

Regardless of the weather, it is still important to get outside and exercise, preferably in the early morning hours when it is still cool outside, and you won’t suffer from dehydration or heat exhaustion.

Today, I found this nifty little calorie burner calculator that tells you how many calories you burned for the exercise you did, according to weight and duration: Calorie burner calculator.

I don’t know what I’m going to do today, but it’s either going to be walk, run, or bike.  What are you going to do today?  I should start a calorie-burn challenge to get everyone hyped to go outside…maybe I will even post the results…any ideas?
