I Pass the Burlington Free Press Test

June 20, 2007

Cruising through the local paper this morning. I was actually reading yesterday’s paper today, but I found an article on what you should look for in an energy bar, and I believe that Eddie’s Energy Bars pass the test with flying colors. Here is the little excerpt here. This excerpt was only in the paper, and not online.

I just want to point a few things. Most of our bars do contain dried fruit, oats, soy flour, chocolate chips, and brown sugar. This, together with some other ingredients does form a short ingredient list that is easy to pronounce. That’s what I was going for when creating this bar.

Our bars do not contain any chemicals, preservatives, or corn syrups. We also do not hide the truth–our bars are all less than 300 calories, but still have the same great taste you would find in such food.

Sure, options do include Luna bars, Clif bars, and others, but give the small Vermont guy a chance. Order some Vermont homemade energy bars today!

Sweet Clover Demo Was SWEET!

June 14, 2007

I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far. If you were unable to make it to my product demo of my homemade energy bars, you certainly missed out. Sweet Clover Market has really been a great retail account for me, and they continue to sell out 18 (yes, a dozen and a half) each week! It just amazes me, that it happens. Sell-outs give me the confidence to move forward with my energy bar venture, and the reassurance that I am doing at least one thing right.

Not only do my energy bars sell well there, but the employees are incredibly nice there, and talked with me during the slow times at my demo today. I liked that they looked past my age, and saw that I was just really trying to sell a great tasting product.

Anyway, enough sappiness. Here is a picture of what my demo table looked like, followed by a picture of what was infront of me….tasty, and hard to resist shortbread.

Note the Vermont Shortbread on the first and second shelves–tasty stuff right there!

As I bid adue to my totally awesome demo over in Essex, I made sure to pick up some maple breakfast sausage handmade by Cole, the butcher, at Sweet Clover Market. I am dying to try it! It’s made from a nice cut of meat and real Vermont maple syrup. I will let you guys know if you should run and get some.

Have a great day!

The Like Factor

June 11, 2007

I’m going to go where none of my blog entries have gone before: talking about the English language, most importantly the use of the word like by my generation, generation Y.  Although this doesn’t have much to do with homemade energy bars or health and wellness, it is something that I think is very important to the general population of the United States.

The word like is definitely a generational thing.  When my parents say it, it just sounds funny.  They shouldn’t be saying it. WEIRD!  But, when my best friends say it, it is second nature to me, and I don’t even notice it.

This whole like phenomenon could backfire on generation Y.  Think of all the presentations that your kids will be doing.  Using like is unprofessional, and is looked at as somewhat of an informal presentation, when the need to be formal is crucial.

Tonight, at the dinner table, it was really a struggle to form a sentence in regular conversation without using the word like.  I would say a couple of words, and then in my head, like would come up, and I would freeze.  What do I say, if I can’t say like?  It’s a life lesson I think I will have to learn before I step into this “real world” my parents are always telling me about.

So, to all my generation Y-ers out there, try making normal conversation without the use of like.  Some of you will probably be able to do it, some will fail miserably.

If you notice, I didn’t use like one time in this blog entry (not counting when I used it as the topic of this blog).  That is like totally cool!–kidding–seriously.

Until tomorrow!

I have found the camera wire!

May 20, 2007

If you don’t know what I am talking about, refer to the post before this. To show off my wonderful cleaning abilities here are the before and after pictures of my desk. Now, I think I will be able to get more things done.

After–isn’t it beautiful!

I barely started cleaning the rest of my room, and I finally found it. It’s a good thing it didn’t take all day, or I would have easily gotten side tracked.

Have a great day.

I need to go on an Organizing Mission

May 20, 2007

So I got home from college last Tuesday.  Great, grand.  I unpacked everything, and now I can’t seem to find anything.  I took a picture of my desk with my camera (I managed to find that), before when it was messy, then after when it was clean, but there is one problem. I can’t find the cable to put my pictures onto my computer that I was going to post in this entry on how an organized office/room makes you more productive.  Sure, my desk is nice and clean, but my closet is thirty some-odd cubic feet of disaster, along with my nightstand piled high in guerrilla marketing books by Jay Conrad Levison, and other random newspaper cut outs from various members of my family.

I don’t quite know if I have learned my lesson.  I went on this little rant this morning about how I can’t find anything, and that I want to get rid of everything in my room/office that I don’t need: All the chochtkes, the books I am not going read, and even my binders from high school that have taken over one corner of my closet.

Is this simplicity a bad idea?  Maybe this is just a phase.

Well, regardless.  Let the simplicity and organization begin.  This might involve a trip to Staples for organizing accessories, and maybe even Home Depot for extra shelving.
