Yep. We Don’t Use Apple Powder.

I was in the local Stop and Shop in Greenville, Rhode Island yesterday, and I saw something that I honestly hope I never see again. As we were checking out, I decided to go check out the Entenmann’s display. The first thing I picked up was some sort of apple pie square. I flipped it over and started reading. One of the very first ingredients I read was apple powder, followed closely by a whole bunch of words that I failed to pronounce. Oh, and there also was high fructose syrup, corn syrup, sugar, and fructose, or some combination thereof.

How many ways can you write down high fructose corn syrup? I didn’t know it broke down into many different items, all bad for you, regardless. The bigger catastrophe was the apple powder. Who would flavor something with a powder, when you can use real apples? Yes, I’m sure the powder is cheaper, but please, please, do not skimp on the quality of products!

At Eddie’s, we do not use apple powder, or any form of fructose anything to flavor or sweeten our energy bars. We use real oranges, dried cranberries, and 100% real Vermont maple syrup to flavor a couple of our bars. You can pronounce everything on the ingredient label, and there is no long list of preservatives.

So, when it all comes down to it, which product would you like? Order your Eddie’s Energy Bars today!

Woods Tea Company Creates a Special Energy Bar

Whew! It has been a crazy week here at school, and I have a feeling that it will just keep on continuing. We have had a lot developing over the past couple of weeks, and here is a bit behind one of my favorite things we have been working on at Eddie’s:

In early January, Howard Wooden of the Woods Tea Company, a folk band based in St. Albans, VT, contact us about making Rusty’s Energy Bars. Rusty Jacobs, the founder of the band sadly passed away last year. Howard and his band mates wanted to remember Rusty in a fun way, which is why Howard thought energy bars would be a great idea.

They sent me some artwork, and I threw together an awesome label. They are taking the bars on tour with them throughout California during February. Every penny made will go to Henriette’s Relief Project, which is fantastic.

If you have yet to see Wood’s Tea live, then check out their tour dates if you are out in California. They are incredible! If you’re a Vermont local, there are a couple of tour dates for you too!

After weeks of trying to reach the right person at Healthy Living Market in South Burlington, VT, we have made some headway.

For those of you wondering if we’re going to be showing up in Healthy Living anytime soon, here was their answer:

They are interested in carrying our local product, however, with all of the hustle and bustle of their new store, they would like to talk with us after their new store opens.

So, we hope to be entering Healthy Living sometime in early 2008, when they are projected to open.
