Eddie’s Donates to Climbing for Spina Bifida

When I received a call from fellow Vermonter, John Page, the expedition leader for Climbing for Spina Bifida, asking for product donation to climb the highest 67 summits in New England while benefiting the Spina Bifida Association, I just could not turn him down.

John and his crew are awesome people.  They do everything for their sponsors, and really get the word out about products and services, including Eddie’s Energy Bars.  John has coined Eddie’s Energy Bars as “awesome products where I can finally pronounce all of the ingredients”.  That’s what sells our bars…the real ingredients, and the fantastic taste that we worked on for two years to master.

Our product donations do go a long way, but what is more important is what Climbing for Spina Bifida is trying to accomplish.  The 67 highest peaks over 4,000 ft. in New England is one tremendous feat, but John and his climbing partner intend to do it over the next year or two by hiking mainly on weekends.  However, they are not the only team.  John has enlisted a climbing team in the West, and is working on a central team as we speak.

So, why is John and company doing this?  Here is an excerpt from John’s letter on the homepage:
As a lifelong hiker and avid outdoor enthusiast the idea to climb the highest 67 Summits came to me one day while driving home from the Hospital. After seeing my Daughter I was wondering what I could do to help others. I love to climb and this seemed like a great way to go about raising awareness and funds for Spina Bifida. I gave this a lot of thought and the more I thought about it the more I believed people would get behind me.

Our mission is to climb the highest 67 Summits in New England over 4000 feet. We are doing this to raise awareness and raise funds for the S.B.A.A./Mass http://www.msbaweb.org/ which really helps a lot of people. It is an 18 month Expedition which I expect to open a lot of eyes about S.B. I also feel that it will be a Spiritual Journey and a cleansing journey. I hope to touch a lot of people’s hearts.

Expedition Leader
John Page

Everyone at Eddie’s is very excited to get the chance to sponsor this great group of guys, and help out other organizations as well.  Both John and I agree that Vermonters helping Vermonters is the best way to do business!  There is a possibility that we will be hopping around New England with C4SB promoting them and our awesome energy bars!

Stay tuned for event developments!

The 2008 Great Outdoors Challenge

Whew! It’s been a good week since my last post, but school took the steering wheel. It’s great to have this three day weekend though. Any who, I thought I would post an update with a bang. We are launching the 2008 Great Outdoors Challenge.

At Eddie’s Energy Bars, we have a social mission to get people outdoors to explore the trails that are around their house. To encourage this, we have started this program to help our loyal customers get outdoors. Our customer feedback has let us know that our customers are most likely to be found right smack in the middle of the woods cross-country skiing, hiking, adventure racing, or mountain biking. This challenge will run through the 2008 summer. Eddie’s is going to try and organize a couple of hikes with Hikeu Adventure Guides throughout the summer to help you guys out.

So here’s the deal: We want you to fill out a short little form telling us your greatest outdoor adventure and what flavor Eddie’s bar you like. You can even send us a picture of you and your Eddie’s Energy bar at outdoors@eddiesenergy.com.

But wait, there’s more! We don’t want you to go home empty handed. We want to give you a discount to buy more Eddie’s bars and get outdoors more often! When we receive your form and picture*, you will be sent a coupon for 15% off your next order**! I know, crazy! We don’t offer coupons too often, so make sure to take advantage of this one!

Click here to fill out the form for the 2008 Great Outdoors Challenge!

Eddie’s Supports “Peak for Pam”

We love supporting the locals around here, and spreading lots of local love throughout the state is in our mission statement.

Our most recent example of local love is through the support of Peak for Pam. Pam Paradee is a local Champlain Valley Union High School teacher who has cancer. To defray medical costs, her many supports have decided to raise money through the Peak for Pam Challenge.

According to the site:

Announcing a group event conquering 5 of Vermont’s highest peaks within 10 hours. Groups can work as a team to raise $2000 or individuals can work to raise $200. Of course, any amount you raise would be greatly appreciated. The challenge starts up Mount Ellen (4080′) and traverses over 4 additional peaks finishing at the summit of Mount Abraham (4006′). The full hike takes the average hiker roughly 8.5-9 hours to complete. For more information on taking part in the Challenge, donating or volunteering, please contact Pam’s sister, Jen Smith at j.smith@mtghs.com. Thank you!

This event is taking place on Saturday, October 27th with donated energy bars from Eddie’s Energy Bars. We are so thrilled to be a part of this cause. Our friends, Happy and Badmoon, over at Hikeu Adventure Guides, are donating their time to guide the group of twenty five hikers up, down, and all around Vermont’s beautiful Green Mountains. They told me about the hike, and I was quick to hop on with some energy bars for the hikers.

If you’re a local, or even up for the weekend, please consider donating money or participating in your own hike to the summit of a mountain to show your support for not only Pam, but the thousands of other men and women battling cancer.

Thanks!

Hiking in Rhode Island

Good morning,

Yesterday I went on a fantastic fall hike through Lime Rock Preserve in Lincoln, RI with a couple of friends from school.  I wish I had the opportunity to take some pictures, but I accidentally put dead batteries in my camera before I left (oops!).

I took along my last remaining Eddie’s Energy Bar that I have in my freezer, and ate it on the hike.  It was Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, for all of you who are dying to know what energy bar flavor I eat.  I eat them all, actually.

In terms of hiking, it wasn’t exactly a hike. It was more of a nature walk, as the highest point in Rhode Island is something like 872 feet.  There was nothing wrong with that though.  We climbed some rocks, looked out over a reservoir, and found lots of frogs in still water down a hill.  We then perched on some rocks and had a snack, and talked about how fun it would be to go to work in a t-shirt and shorts–basically my goal in life.

While on the hike, I said to my friends that hiking outside was so much better than walking on a treadmill inside of a stuffy gym.  I would do it any day, but winter kind of gets in the way.  If you’re sick of getting your cardio in at the gym, try going for a fall hike, and I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Eddie’s Energy Bars Power Boy Scouts on Long Trail

Happy, over at Hikeu Adventure Guides brought some of our energy bars down to her sister who is hiking the Long Trail with a handful of boy scouts this week. They are taking a 75 mile trek up to Camel’s Hump–an incredible feat!

It is pretty sweet to know that our energy bars are being consumed for the exact reason we had intended: hikers, cyclists, or even intense walkers. I wish the Boy Scouts the best of luck on their trek!

Happy sent me a picture of some of the scouts holding their Eddie’s Bars at the start of their trek. They certainly look happy to have an Eddie’s Energy Bar in their hand! If you are interested in powering yourself to hike the long-trail one day Hikeu Adventure Guides is doing an end-to-end long trail backpacking trip sometime in September. Look at it as a great way to get outdoors, meet some great people, and eat Eddie’s Energy Bars!
