Hi All,

How many of you enjoy being outside and playing your favorite sport?  I’m sure all of you answered yes, and that’s why you should travel from far and wide to come see Eddie’s Energy Bars at the All Sports, Recreation, and Fitness Expo on October 20-21st at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds.

It’s going to be a jolly good time.  There are going to be over one hundred exhibitors for you to see, and over sixty seminars and demonstrations for you to attend.  But, the best reason to go to the expo is free samples of every single one of our energy bars.  That’s right!  If there are flavors you haven’t tasted, you can go ahead and try them.  Or, if you are coming from out of state and want to stock your freezer full of energy bars, buy them at the expo.

We’re there 9-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday, so stop by and see us! For more information on the show, click here.

I Dream of a Bigger Facility

I have been getting calls and e-mails left and right for huge orders lately.  The most recent was an order for 5,000-10,000 custom labeled energy bars for a promotion a California company was putting on.

We just can’t do that with our home bakery.  My parents would have to work day in and day out, and maybe even take a couple of days off.  I don’t want them to have to do that.

In regards to a bigger space, we have already started looking for alternatives to producing our bars in our bakery, but we don’t want to lose the high quality associated with handmade Vermont products.

In a perfect world, it would be great if we could go out in our backyard and pluck $100 bills off the trees to finance a commercial kitchen remodel, but we can’t.

I’m content with our small home bakery, but it can only take us so far. Oh boy, do I dream of a commercial facility one day…

Never lose sight of your dreams.  It will keep you going every day of the week.

EEB Partner, Hikeu, Gets Some Good Words

Just a quick post here before I run to lunch.

This morning in the Burlington Free Press, there was an article on a partner of ours, Hikeu Adventure Guides, that detailed how the owners, Reid and Brenda, met each other, and why they started this awesome company.

So, head on over and give this article a read.

Also, we have gotten approval from the higher ups at Hikeu Adventure Guides to produce what we are calling “The Hikeu Bar”.  It is loaded with whole peanuts, whole cashews, white and dark chocolate chips, as well as fresh Vermont maple syrup from Comeau’s Sugarhouse in Williston. It is loaded with calories, fat, and protein, but bear in mind, it is for a backpacking company who needs all of this on their trips, so in a way, it was specially designed.

This bar is most likely to be available through Hikeu Adventure Guides next summer, and maybe it will pop into stores for a limited time only next year as well.  Yep–I’m just building the hype.

Congrats Reid and Brenda (Happy and Bad Moon) on a great article in the Free Press!

Eddie’s Energy Bars to Climb Everest!

No, no, no, the employees of Eddie’s Energy Bars are not climbing Everest, but a very adventurous man is climbing Everest with the help of Eddie’s Energy Bars. This is so incredibly exciting, that I must tell you the story:

It was just a couple of minutes ago that I called the Vermont Green Grocer, one of our retail accounts, and made sure our bulk order was in place. After we secured the order, Kris, the owner, had a little story to tell me.

She said that last week a gentleman came in wearing a Shelburne Farms sticker (some things are touristy to us Vermonters!), and he was looking around for a couple of minutes and said ‘Oh, here they are!’, pointing to our awesome wood crate that we sell our homemade energy bars in. He then told Kris that he was taking our bars up Everest! Kris then asked him how he had heard about our awesome product. He replied that he saw our article in Backpacker Magazine’s August issue, and since he was in the area, he decided to drive up to Vermont Green Grocer and pick up some bars (he was traveling up from New Jersey). So, he took eight Eddie’s Energy Bars to feed and power him up Everest–how cool is that?

So, that is the happy news for the day. It’s why we’re in business. We love the thought of knowing that people enjoy our energy bars, and eat them all the time. We thank you for that!

To the man climbing Everest with Eddie’s Energy Bars, good luck, and please contact us after your trip!

We Want Salmon!
September 13, 2007, 7:34 am
Filed under: Nutrition, Random Thoughts, School

As many of you may remember from those college days, the food options on campus were not the greatest in the world.  Well, it’s no shocker today, that they still really aren’t that great.

Last night for dinner, the cafeteria on campus was serving baked cod. Now, don’t get me wrong here. Cod is a delicious fish, however when it’s the only fish that our cafeteria serves (in the same way every time too), it gets incredibly annoying.

So my friend CJ and I decided to ask what we could do about that.  We wanted salmon, talapia, catfish, swordfish….any other kind of fish! There is an incredible nutritional value in fish, but apparently paying an un-godly amount of money to go here doesn’t pay for quality food. So, we found out about the surveys that get sent around by Sodexho (the food service company Bryant uses), where students can have their input on certain food items the like, dislike, want to add, etc.

We took a survey last year from Sodexho, and I swear it did about nothing–well except for the real OJ we have now, and Grape Nuts where the cereal is.

So, as I grumble about not having enough fish (prepared different ways), I’m going to try and change that. Let’s see what one kid on campus can do.
