The Flavor Graveyard?
I have a couple of flavors on the back burner over here at EEB. One of them is the chocolate chocolate chip, which has gotten a lot of great reviews from the people privileged to sample it before it hits the market. However, I have a dilemma of whether I want to launch the chocolate chocolate chip in stores or just online…
So, a couple of weeks ago, I was sitting at the packaging table with some of my family, and my brother suggested that if I were to add another flavor, I would discontinue another. The crates in stores are meant to hold one dozen energy bars (2 of each flavor right now). He mentioned the concept Ben and Jerry’s had of the flavor graveyard. Now, I obviously couldn’t call it that for legal reasons, but it would be interesting to start one with flavors that have either been retired or never made it to store shelves.
What would you call it? More importantly, what flavor should I retire?
Help me out!

Handmade Hot Dogs for July 4th
My last delivery every Thursday is Sweet Clover Market. I usually pick up something new every week to try for dinner. I had a conversation with Suzanne, a very nice employee there, about the butcher’s handmade hot dogs, made with meat from Jericho Settler’s Farm. He is one of two butchers in New England that actually makes his own hotdogs. A little expensive, but I highly recomend them for your 4th of July BBQ.
Today, I decided to give the handmade sweet and hot Italian sausage a try, as I am a huge fan of Italian sausage because of all of the flavors. Everything I have bought over at SCM has been incredible, and I am ready to try this amazing sausage.
Give Sweet Clover Market a try–just about everything is handmade and local!

To Bake or not to Bake

Baking
It is hard to muster up the motivation to bake in humid weather. The hot oven just makes the kitchen like a death zone, almost to the point where I want to go take a dip in the river below our bakery. It’s like my face is going to melt off, trying to bake homemade energy bars in our bakery, but it’s something I’ve got to do.
Ideally, I should probably bake really early in the morning, but like many entrepreneurs, I need my sleep, 7-8 hours to be exact. I might just head down right now and go start baking.
Hope I have all the ingredients that I need!

Where do Entrepreneurs get advice?
Other entrepreneurs of course!
Whenever I need to figure something out, I always look for another entrepreneur to talk to because I know, when they were starting out, they went through the same things I am going through right now, and they know how to handle the situations perfectly.
Advice from entrepreneurs can go a long way in more ways than one. When I am looking for more outlets to sell my energy bars in, many times other entrepreneurs have the connections that I am looking for, and they can point me in the right direction.
It is also nice to speak with some who is just as enthusiastic about your product venture, and can relate to you, and your determination to get things done, successfully and efficiently. Just a quick conversation with other entrepreneurs can land you in the perfect spot, with multiple ideas to work on. This recently happened with Ann Zuccardy of Vermont Shortbread Company. We were talking yesterday, and we stumbled upon a fantastic business idea.
Nope. Not telling. But, it’s brilliant. Stay tuned!

A Nice Little Calorie Burner
Good Morning,
These next few days are going to showcase all that summer has to offer: hazy, hot, and humid weather, with temperatures getting up into the 90’s. I personally despise ridiculously hot weather, but others “thrive” in it.
Regardless of the weather, it is still important to get outside and exercise, preferably in the early morning hours when it is still cool outside, and you won’t suffer from dehydration or heat exhaustion.
Today, I found this nifty little calorie burner calculator that tells you how many calories you burned for the exercise you did, according to weight and duration: Calorie burner calculator.
I don’t know what I’m going to do today, but it’s either going to be walk, run, or bike. What are you going to do today? I should start a calorie-burn challenge to get everyone hyped to go outside…maybe I will even post the results…any ideas?
