I woke at 6:48 this morning. It was supposed to be 6:40, but my alarm did not go off. Thank god I woke up because I needed to register for classes for the fall 2007 semester. This past weekend I spent some good time finding classes, and even a couple of back-ups, which were not needed, fortunately. While planning my classes, I noticed how class registration is similar to entrepreneurship.
Plan ahead and prioritize
I would like to think that I am an organized person, but some may argue differently. I had my classes and back-up classes all figured out by Sunday night, so I could just type the CRN’s in in the morning and go along with my daily life. It did end up being that simple, but the order I put them in was crucial. I needed to put them in such an order where the classes with less seats were typed in first, and the 8:00 am classes (yes, I am taking an 8:00 am class) would be typed in last. This works just like entrepreneurship. I plan ahead for just about everything, and prioritize, like the word is related to me. Prioritizing with business and college is a tough thing to do though. As much as I would like to commit to running Eddie’s Energy Bars, I can’t, and school work needs to come first, before my May newsletter goes out to all my readers. Be ready to solve problems
When I arrived at my math class this morning, I found out that I had just registered with probably the worst accounting teacher at Bryant. I needed to scramble to find another teacher or another class to take. After class, I ran to my dorm room, and found another business core class to take, and I was satisfied. Literally minutes ago, this ’solving problems quickly’ thing just happened to me. I had an order placed for my healthy energy bars, but the customer had problems with payment. I e-mailed her to see if she needed any help, and I had determined that I needed to find another way for her to pay. Luckily, everything was solved in a matter of hours (this entrepreneur had to go to English Class).
Learning to let it go, and move on
While I was a lucky kid to get all my first choice classes initially, my neighbor, Jordan, was not so lucky. He ended up getting a couple of classes he wanted, but forgot to get some back-ups. It was alright; though, he sacrificed for a couple of morning classes, and everything ended up fine, despite the fact he has to wake up every day at 7:00 am. I can remember an instance in the EEB Kitchen when I dumped a whole container of yogurt down the drain by accident (note to self: use a spatula to get the yogurt out. Don’t just tip it over). I was full of anger, because I had a pretty big order to fill for the next day, but I managed to just take a deep breath, run to the store, and grab some yogurt–isn’t buying local great?
Alright, I need to run to the gym…but first, I’m grabbing a bar out of the fridge that isn’t even on the market yet–haha–the perks of owning an energy bar company–new flavors all the time!
More on some possible new flavors later.
